Leeuwarden fossil-free in 2020.
Green gas and solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy: wind and heat are the primary sources.
Important to the approach is the creation of new jobs and knowledge.
The themes are: built environment, energy from waste, solar energy and clean mobility (cars and boats running on green gas and electricity).
Leeuwarden extends grants for sustainability in new private homes. Through this incentive, the Leeuwarden Local Authority promotes sustainable construction, use of rainwater and promotes the use of renewable, non-fossil energy to stimulate new homes in its municipality.
After the summer Green Gas Netherlands Knowledge Centre officially opens its doors in the Leeuwarden Nij Bosma Zathe. The national centre is able to tell all about this renewable energy bundle. The knowledge is available for interested citizens, students and specialists. The centre is part of Green Gas Netherlands and is actively supported by the several green gas generation projects.
